Don't forget to bring your fun to the Scones Not Drones fund-raiser @ P&J (202 Harvard SE):
On April 9th, Holy Thursday, Albuquerque resident Mariah Klusmire entered in to Creech Air Force Base at the commercial entrance along with 13 other faith-based peace activists. The fourteen peaceful demonstrators were stopped upon entering the base and started a nonviolent sit-down blockade which lasted four hours. The “Creech 14” walked on to the base with the intention to share troubling information with the pilots and navigators who operate the Predator and Reaper drones flown in Afghanistan and Pakistan. These unmanned aerial aircrafts are piloted by the Air Force using video game-style technology in several states including Nevada, specifically at Creech. The drones have killed around 700 people, most civilians, and displaced 1 million people.
The Holy Thrusday prayer-action at Creech was organized by Nevada Desert Experience and Voices for Creative Nonviolence. Klusmire, along with her fellow demonstrators were charged with criminal trespass and are awaiting trial. A fund-raiser for the continuing campaign at Creech will be held on June 6th at the Peace and Justice Center (202 Harvard SE—near Yale and Central). Fr. Steve Kelly S.J., a fellow arrestee, will celebrate Catholic Mass and then afterward Mariah Klusmire and Fr. Steve will give a presentation on CreechAFB and the drones.
